The annual Medical Doctors and Dentists Forum was initiated in 2011 by the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) with financial and technical support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Namibia.
The purpose of The Forum is to provide a platform and an opportunity for Doctors and Dentists to: share experiences, learn from one another, voice their concerns and make recommendations that may strengthen or improve their roles, improve their welfare and quality of health care service delivery. In addition, the Forum assists the MOHSS to build capacity for quality management among Medical Doctors and Dentists many of whom provide leadership at various levels of the MOHSS.
The three day Forum covered a broad range of topics linked to optimizing the delivery of medical care and improving patient outcomes in Namibia, including improving access to cervical cancer screening among HIV+ patients, oral health, maternal child health, health information technology, building a national quality management program, the HIV care cascade, and many others.
The meeting concluded with a series of recommendations to be adopted by providers and the MOHSS covering topics related to quality of care, communication among doctors and dentists, HRH recruitment, community involvement, and the Health Professionals Council of Namibia.
